Tiffin University forms articulation agreement with Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine

The agreement established a guaranteed interview for Tiffin University students if they meet Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine’s admission requirements.

Tiffin University, an Ohio-based school established a century ago, has formed an articulation agreement with the newly-established Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine in Winter Park Florida. The agreement is called the Guaranteed Interview Program, which guarantees Tiffin University students an interview with Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine as long as the student meets the requirements for admission.

According to an article on Tiffin University’s website, Dr. Mark Sabo, who serves as the Dean of the School of Science, Technology, and Health at Tiffin University, was quoted as saying of the benefits this articulation agreement will provide for both institutions and their students, “The articulation agreement with the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine marks an exciting opportunity for Tiffin University students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. By guaranteeing our students an interview if they meet OCOM’s admission requirements, we are providing them with a clear pathway to one of the most innovative medical schools in the country. Through this partnership, we are facilitating opportunities, contributing to the solution for the projected physician shortage and addressing society’s needs. This agreement resonates deeply with Tiffin University’s vision to be a premier university for challenging students to enhance their global competencies and 21st-century skills, preparing them for success in a diverse world.”

The articulation agreement was developed to help undergraduate pre-medical students from Tiffin University advance in their education with the benefit of a guaranteed interview, so long as they meet the admissions requirements as outlined by Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine. As part of the agreement, Tiffin University has agreed that it will make pre-medical students aware of and refer them to Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine by their third year of undergraduate studies at Tiffin.

Dr. Chet Evans, who is a Tiffin University Board of Trustees Member as well as an Educational Consultant and Clinical Professor at Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine, said, “The nation currently suffers from a serious physician shortage, especially in the primary care arena. Articulation agreements, such as the one between OCOM and Tiffin University, facilitate and help to provide a more direct pipeline for medical schools to recruit a quality, motivated and diverse entering class of future physicians. The team at OCOM is pleased and delighted to have such a partnership with Tiffin University!”

In order to be eligible to take advantage of the articulation agreement and receive their guaranteed interview, Tiffin students and graduates must meet the GPA requirement for admission to Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as meeting the required minimum score on the Medical College Admission Test and completing the prerequisite classes for admission.

Dr. Robert T Hasty, DO, FACOI, FACP, Dean and Chief Academic Officer at Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine, was quoted as saying, “We are excited for this partnership and friendship with Tiffin University to provide additional opportunities for their graduates and alumni to become caring and competent physicians. Tiffin University has over one hundred years of experience in higher education and we are thrilled to welcome future OCOM students who have been educated there.”
