Software development scholarship established at Lorain County Community College thanks to Sherwin-Williams

The new scholarship program is called “Create Your Possible: Sherwin-Williams Career Accelerator.”

Students at Lorain County Community College can now apply for the “Create Your Possible: Sherwin-Williams Career Accelerator” scholarship program if they are studying software development. The scholarship will begin being awarded in the Fall 2024 semester.

The scholarship is available to software development students who have a 2.75 or higher GPA and are new to LCCC or new to studying software development, either at Lorain County Community College or at LCCC partner universities. In addition to the program providing up to $3,000 toward the student’s tuition, it also comes along with mentorship opportunities from Sherwin-Williams, paid work opportunities with Sherwin-Williams and other companies, help to prepare for credentialing exams, tours of Sherwin-Williams, and professional development resources.

According to an article on Lorain County Community College’s website, Marcia J. Ballinger, Ph.D., who serves as the president of Lorain County Community College, was quoted as saying of the new scholarship program, “This new scholarship continues the long history of partnership between LCCC and Sherwin-Williams. This program will allow more students access to education and software development, proactively building a workforce to fill software development jobs.”

Diana Strongosky, who is Sherwin-Williams’ Senior Vice President of Global Innovation, spoke further on the partnership between the company and the school, saying, “Sherwin-Williams is thrilled to provide these comprehensive resources that will help students prepare for a successful career in software development. Through strategic collaborations with institutions like Lorain County Community College, we can continue to attract, develop and retain the best and brightest STEM talent for Sherwin-Williams and the broader region.”

The goal of providing such a scholarship program is to prepare students to take part in what is a readily available and often lucrative career in the state of Ohio.

Ballinger said, “LCCC’s mission is to prepare students for well-paying careers close to home, and this scholarship program aligns perfectly with that goal. As a result, even more students will be able to prepare for Ohio careers in software development.”
