Tiffin University receives funding to offer free microcredentials to Ohio residents via Individual Microcredential Assistance Program

The award, which totals $499,000, is enough to provide free credentialing to 187 individuals.

Tiffin University has received $499,000 from the state of Ohio to provide technology-focused training to Ohio residents. The funding comes from the Individual Microcredential Assistance Program, which has recently been expanded and is available to anyone who lives in the state of Ohio.

According to an article on Tiffin University’s website, Lt. Governor Jon Husted was quoted as saying in his announcement, “Today’s announcement more than doubles the number of credentials available than in the most previous round of IMAP. We want to remove barriers to job training so more Ohioans can earn skills that are needed now and, in the future, and that’s what we’re doing through the IMAP program.”

Training via the IMAP program can be completed in person or online, and is now open to all Ohioans. Previously, the program was focused on those who were unemployed or came from low-income households. Tiffin University is among 15 institutions that will receive reimbursement for anyone who utilizes the free credentialing opportunities.

Tiffin University’s website lists the available certificates and estimates that the credentialing will take between three and six months to complete. Among the available credentialing programs are Cybersecurity, Data Science, Networking Specialist, PC Technician, Software Development, and more.

Dr. Peter J. Holbrook, Provost and Chief Operating Officer of Tiffin University, said of the training programs, “The certificates included in the training were identified through Ohio’s market analysis and will support labor gaps that the state is facing. Tiffin University continues to be a leader in the commitment to train the State’s future workforce, through our innovative curriculum and hands-on learning experiences.”
