Walsh University’s recently instated Aviation program restructured

The Aviation program began in 2022 and has been reorganized to replace the current stacked 2+2.

The Aviation program at Walsh University has received a restructuring that will help students graduate with their degrees more quickly, with fewer required flight hours.

According to an article on Walsh University’s website, Dr. Michael Dunphy, who is the vice president of academic affairs at the school, believes this change will make Walsh’s graduates more competitive: “Our goal is to set them up for success, to have a career in aviation as a professional pilot for the airlines, as a corporate pilot or for many other opportunities. A bachelor’s degree in Professional Aviation from Walsh has a blend of psychology courses, business courses, professional development, and aviation courses (from American Winds) that will give our graduates a competitive advantage.”

The Aviation program offers a concurrent Bachelor of Science in Professional Aviation 2+2 in partnership with American Winds College of Aeronautics, from which students will earn an associate degree in Aeronautical Science. Students will be enrolled in both institutions, earning a degree from Walsh and doing their flight hours with American Winds.

The restructuring is intended to give students the ability to pursue their piloting career at a lower cost and through a more streamlined process. This allows students to take their major courses simultaneously to complete flight hours, and students can, depending on circumstances like weather, complete a Private Pilot course within a few months of starting their program.

Walsh plans to develop the program even further in the future to help address the shortage of pilots around the country.
