St Clair County Community College introduces new scholarship in memory of alumna

The Ellen Petho Design Ideas Memorial Scholarship will benefit art and design students.

The family of St Clair County Community College alumna Ellen Petho has donated $100,000 in her memory to fund a new scholarship for students of art and design called the Ellen Petho Design Ideas Memorial Scholarship.

According to an article on St Clair County Community College's website, Petho, a 1988 SC4 graduate, was a successful interior designer who hailed from Port Huron. She and her husband, Lou, raised their family in Port Huron, as well. Her degree was in advertising and design and she had a long and successful career in interior design. In addition to her work, she was proudly devoted to philanthropy, which led her family to donate the money for the scholarship in her name after Ellen passed away at the beginning of 2023.

Petho’s husband and daughters donated $100,000 for the scholarship just in time for St Clair County Community College’s 100th anniversary.

Petho’s legacy will live on as her family’s donation funds tuition for art and design students at SC4.
