Muskingum University and Dublin City Schools celebrate ten years of partnership

Dublin City Schools and Muskingum University’s teacher development program has recently reached the ten year mark of its existence. The program allows for teachers at the school district to use Muskingum University's resources for continuing education opportunities.

Dublin City Schools and Muskingum University recently celebrated their partnership program’s tenth anniversary. The program provides the teaching staff at Dublin City Schools with graduate credit and professional development opportunities.

In addition to those opportunities, the partnership also includes two annual conferences during which attendees write and share written reflections on what they have learned so far, which are then evaluated and adjudicated for graduate level credit by educator preparation faculty from Muskingum University.

In an article posted on Muskingum University’s website, Nancy Bradley, who serves as Muskingum’s Director of Graduate Teacher Education, was quoted about the partnership, saying, “Dublin City Schools is an innovative and creative district on the cutting edge of education. We are enormously proud to partner with them and provide graduate education credit to their teachers. Muskingum benefits from the relationships we build with practicing educators in the field, and we learn what is in their hearts and minds as they reflect on their own experiences and on trends within their profession.”

The beginning of Dublin City School’s year is in August, which is when LEADublin takes place. At the event, national and regional keynote speakers come to share what they have found to be important trends in education with the 600 teachers of the district.

Then, every February, the Dublin Literacy Conference takes place. This conference brings in more than 1,000 teachers from five different states for both breakout sessions with leading children’s authors from around the nation as well as keynote presentations by distinguished speakers.

Dublin City Schools is the ninth-largest public school district in Ohio and is also one of the highest achieving districts in the state. More than 16,000 students are enrolled in the district every year, with more than 2,500 staff members being employed in a diverse, urban environment. The district encompasses Upper Arlington, Hilliard, Columbus, and part of Dublin, with a student body who speaks more than 70 different languages and that comes from more than 100 different countries.

The graduate teacher education program at Muskingum University offers a range of education leadership options for credentialed teachers, accelerated programs, professional development, endorsements and licensures, and degrees, such as options for students looking to join the teaching field. The Executive Director of the Education Studies Department at Muskingum is Dr. Timothy Slekar.
