Mott Community College starts Summer Academic Acceleration Program to prepare incoming students

Mott Community College’s Summer Academic Acceleration Program will prepare students to adjust to the college experience, accelerate basic educational skills, and look into career prospects.

New students to Mott Community College have a new opportunity to help them succeed in their new educational experience. The school has started the Summer Academic Acceleration program. The program is free to high school graduates and other incoming students, and is designed to help them prepare for their first year in higher education.

Students participating in the program will complete a First Year Experience class during the summer before their first year of college. The course will cover strategies for improving academic performance and adjusting to the college experience.

Students will also participate in at least one other course to develop mathematics or strategic reading skills. They will also have the opportunity to take part in career fairs and career counseling.

In an article on the program on the school’s website, Dr. Kevin Asman, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Mott Community College, talked about the benefit the program poses to students, saying, “This is a great, free opportunity for new students to accelerate their skills in English and Math, and the First Year Experience course will help them make career choices and learn how to succeed academically. We are excited to offer this program and grateful for the financial support from the State of Michigan that makes it possible.”

During the program, enrolled students will have the opportunity to take advantage of various student services, like access to Mott Eats food pantry and Chromebooks, financial aid assistance, and transportation assistance.

The Summer Academic Acceleration program classes are free to qualifying students, and are available both online and in person. All incoming regular and guest students are eligible for the program as long as they have not finished a college-level class at Mott or their home school. Students who are middle college students, early students, or are dual enrolled are not eligible for the Summer Academic Acceleration program.
