Roane State Community College’s Vision Care Technology is the only accredited program of its type in the state. It is accepting applications for its fall semester until May 15.
Tennessee’s only accredited Vision Care Technology program is now accepting applications through the 15th of May. Students accepted into the program at Roane State Community College would begin their classes in the fall semester of this year.
Students who earn their Vision Care Technology associate degree at Roane State Community college have seen a high amount of success in the job market. The job placement rate for vision care graduates at Roane State last year was 100%.
The Vision Care Technology program is located on the second floor of the Yager Building on Roane State’s main Roane County campus. The program is able to enroll up to 24 students, and there are still some spots available.
In an article from WYSH Radio, the school’s Vision Care Technology program director, Hali Gibson, talked about the program, saying, “Keeping our classes and labs small means each student can receive one-on-one attention from their instructors and get to know their classmates on a first-name basis. Everyone in the program has an opportunity to shine.”
VCT program students have access to the Roane State Vision Clinic, where they can learn to read prescriptions for eyeglasses and help patients choose and fit frames. The clinic also works to give an essential service to the campus community at a reduced cost, while allowing students a hands-on experience with vision patients.
The most recent clinic finished early this month, but will open again during the fall semester. Anyone looking to take part in an eye clinic only needs a prescription from an eye doctor that is less than a year old. There are many options available such as specialty frames, computer glasses, children’s glasses, sunglasses, and more. Many different types of lenses and coatings are offered as well.
Students interested in the Vision Care Technology program have until Monday, May 15 to apply. More information about the program can be found on the Roane State Community College's website.
