Four women attending Jackson College in Michigan have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa All Michigan Academic team and were recognized at a recent event in Lansing.

Four students at Jackson College have recently been named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Michigan Academic Team. The four women were recognized at a recent lunch ceremony hosted by the Michigan Community College Association and Phi Theta Kappa member institutions in Lansing.

One of the women being honored was Jenifer LaHuis. A member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and student at Jackson College since 2021, she has a passion for helping people. LaHuis’ studies have been focused in allied health with the end goal of earning a degree in sonography. After a 30-year break from education, she returned to college through the Michigan Futures for Frontliners program, which she saw as her way back into education to accomplish her goals.

The next honored student was Tera Faber. She started her time at Jackson College as a high school student through the dual enrollment program before enrolling full time three years ago. During her first year at Jackson, she played soccer while taking the classes needed to apply for the nursing program. At the end of the soccer season, Faber was nominated to be captain of the team and Most Valuable Player and also received awards for Second Team All Region and Honorable Mention All Conference. Faber is working on finishing her third semester of the nursing program and also works at the Jets Store on campus. Her goal for after school is to become a registered nurse and find a job. She also wants to transfer to a university so she can earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing to eventually become a nurse practitioner.

Lexie Anderson was also honored and is in her first semester of Jackson College’s nursing program. She recently became a medical assistant to gain more experience in the medical field, and aspires to become a nurse working in emergency rooms. After she finishes her studies at Jackson College she plans to move to a university where she will work toward a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

According to an article on Jackson College’s website, the final student honored at this event was Josie Mineff; however, no further information about her was available.

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for students attending two year colleges. Students who seek to become members need to have completed at least 12 credit hours at Jackson, and have at least a 3.5 GPA. More information about the honor society can be found at Jackson College's website.
