After a thorough search, the Savannah-Hardin County Center at Jackson State Community College has a new director in Jan Rhodes.
The Savannah-Hardin County Center at Jackson State Community College has a new Director in Janice Rhodes. Dr. Jennifer Lopes, who is the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Jackson State, led the exhaustive search to fill the job opening.
Rhodes has been working at the center for more than two decades and has a wealth of historical knowledge about the center from her experience there. She began working at the center in 1998, shortly after its opening.
In a press release, Dr. Lopes talked about the reasoning behind Rhodes’ selection, saying, “Jan has a plethora of knowledge from her long-standing career at the center and with that, has many innovative ideas that will prove transformative under her direction. I am pleased to see the changes that Jan has already implemented and look forward to seeing the impact she will have on the community through the center.”
Initially, Rhodes was a Learning Center Resource Clerk at the center. She was attending Jackson State Community College as a student at the time. Subsequent to that, Rhodes was promoted to Learning Center Specialist, a position she held for 21 years. After that, Rhodes worked as the acting director of the Savannah-Hardin County Center after the retirement of Meda Falls in May of last year.
Rhodes spoke on her appointment, and the gratitude she feels, saying, “It is truly an honor to be named the Director of the Savannah-Hardin County Center, a place I hold near and dear to my heart. I have worked closely with the former director the entirety of my career and plan to continue her legacy of going above and beyond for our students. I have some innovative ideas coming to fruition soon and I look forward to continuing to provide the excellent, career-centered education JSCC has become known for in our community.”
Rhodes has lived in Savannah for nearly 40 years and serves as a community liaison for Jackson State Community College to the local government, community stakeholders, and business owners.
She has an impressive educational record, having graduated Magna Cum Laude from both Trevecca Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Human Relations, and Jackson State Community College with an Associate of Science in Education.
