Associate of Science in Nursing program to start at South College in Tennessee

South College is starting a new Associate of Science in Nursing program at its Knoxville and Nashville campuses, pending approval by the Tennessee Board of Education.

The Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee campuses of South College are starting a new Associate of Science in Nursing, or ASN, degree program, pending the approval of the Tennessee Board of Nursing.

This will be the school’s first Associate of Science in Nursing program and will be provided through in-person instruction over the course of seven quarters. Students will learn the fundamental skills a nurse generalist needs to have, such as interpersonal skills, critical thinking, the basics of medical care, and the technical skills and academic foundation needed to pass the National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX-RN.

South College Chancellor Stephen A. South was quoted by the Daily Nurse about the new program, saying, “South College remains in tune with the great needs throughout healthcare fields for trained and qualified practitioners and is committed to launching relevant programs such as the Associate of Science in Nursing to positively impact healthcare education. The ASN program opens the door for students to enter the field faster, which saves both time and money while pursuing a degree.”

Students who graduate from the ASN program will be able move on to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN to BSN if they so wish.

More information about South College can be found at the school’s website.
