Clark State College board appoints new chair and vice chair

David Ball and Sharon Evans have been appointed chair and vice chair of the Clark State College Board of Trustees.

Eight-year Board of Trustee veteran David Ball has been appointed Chairman of the Board by the Clark State College of Trustees. The trustees also appointed former board chair and long-standing board member Sharon Evans to the vice chairman of the board position. Both appointees began their one-year positions on January 17.

In a Clark State College press release, Ball spoke on his appointment, saying that he was “humbled by the appointment and deeply appreciate the opportunity and the trust of my fellow Board members.” He went on to say, “It is my goal that Clark State remains committed to our student success and maintains its strong faculty, staff and financial position.”

Ball has also served on the Clark State Foundation Board of Directors. Previously, Ball became a certified public accountant at Ohio State University, before going on to earn his Juris Doctor from there as well. Ball was also enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was assistant general counsel at the Reynolds and Reynolds Company.

Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, who serves as the president of Clark State College, spoke on the appointment of Ball, saying, “David Ball brings a great deal of leadership, financial, and legal expertise to the Board, and he has served on both the Foundation Board and Board of Trustees. He is a champion of excellence in student services and student learning, and understands the alignment needed between our personnel, facilities, and programs that provide for workforce or transfer. I look forward to working with him over the next two years to meet our mission and the goals of the new strategic plan.”

Sharon Evans has been on the Board for over 17 years. Since then she has served as chairperson and vice chairperson. She was reappointed to the Clark State Board of Trustees by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine last November.

Evens spoke highly of her reappointment at the time, and expressed excitement at continuing her service to the students, faculty, staff, and community at large, saying, “Clark State continues to be just a shining spot in our community.”

Blondin also spoke on Evans’ appointment, saying, “Sharon Evans is a strong voice for students, and always wants to ensure that Clark State attracts students who then feel a strong sense of belonging and success. She has served Clark State with distinction, and I look forward to her leadership as well.”

The job of the Clark State Board of Trustees is to oversee the operations of the school, and trustees are appointed for six-year terms by the Governor of Ohio.
