Glen Oaks Community College to renovate South Campus with $7.7 million USDA loan

The Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees has approved a $7.7 million budget for the renovation of South Campus. The loan is to be paid over the next 40 years at 3.5% interest.

The Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees authorized a $7.7 million renovation project for South Campus after a vote at a recent board meeting. The project will allow the nearly 60 year old architectural environment to take on a more modern design, according to the board. The loan is for 40 years and will be paid back with 3.5% interest.

The plans for South Campus contain a new entrance to the athletic area, a renovated fitness center, upgrades to the Nora Hagen Theatre so that it can function as an instructional auditorium with larger class sizes, and new classrooms and labs for the Allied Health programs. The plan will also allow for two new locker rooms for visiting sports teams along with the upgrades to the two existing home team locker rooms.

Glen Oaks Community College President Dr. David H. Devier was quoted in the Sturgis Journal on the project, saying, "This project, along with the nearly completed North Campus project and the recently renovated grand concourse, would complete the transformation of the 50-plus-year-old campus and position it for well into the future."

Glen Oaks offers both associate’s degree programs and certificates in seven areas of study such as Health and Human Services and Computer Science. More information about the school can be found at its website.
