New River Community and Technical College offers writing class focusing on telling story of your life
Belinda Anderson will be holding a class on writing one's life story at New River Community and Technical College during the fall semester. Students will learn to mine their memories and use journalistic techniques to write an engrossing work based on their experiences.
Students interested in telling the story of their life now have the opportunity to learn how to do so at New River community and Technical College. Belinda Anderson, author of the books The Well Ain't Dry Yet, The Bingo Cheaters, and several others, will be teaching the class. Anderson holds the title of Master Artist by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and is a winner of the Just Uncommonly Good award from West Virginia Writers.
In an interview with the Register Herald, Anderson said, “Everyone’s life story deserves to be told, write it for yourself, write it for your family, write it for the world.”
The workshop class, titled Life Stories, will instruct students on the skills to dig into their memories and turn those memories into the written word using both journalistic techniques and techniques to help inspire memory. Students who have a writing project already begun, or complete beginners to writing are welcome to sign up for the class. The class will even have new material for students who have previously completed the course and wish to take it again.
The class is scheduled to start on September 15 and will meet on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and will last an hour. The class will be held through conference call either by phone or internet connection and will include a lecture followed by questions and reading of one’s work if desired.
The class costs $75 and the registration deadline is August 26. Students enrolled in the class will be emailed the number to call to join the conference calls after their registration has been accepted. Interested potential applicants can find more information here.
