C-TEC and COMP collaborate for new automation and robotics course

The Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County and the Central Ohio Manufacturing Partnership have teamed up to create a new one-year-long course in robotics and automation as well as ten full ride scholarships for that course. C-TEC and COMP hope to use this course to help fill the need for manufacturing workers in Ohio.

Students interested in Automation and Robotics now have a new option in workforce training at the Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County’s Postsecondary Center.

C-TEC, Licking County, and several central Ohio manufacturers have developed a partnership in order to help create a pipeline of automation tech workers in the midwest. To celebrate the first class of students, ten students will be given a full ride including books, supplies, and credentials.

Students interested in applying have until April 15 at 5 p.m. to do so. The first session of classes will start June 1 of this year and will end June 14 of 2023. Classes are three days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Speaking to the Newark Advocate about the program, Director of C-TEC's Postsecondary Center, Lauren Massie, said, "Our new Automation and Robotics program offers training in advanced technology and technical skills, preparing adult students for high-paying, in-demand jobs in modern manufacturing. We are very thankful for the support of our local industry partners and (the Central Ohio Manufacturing Partnership) for sponsoring and trusting us to build and develop this program for the county and the region. Their support, including scholarships to our first class of students, has been crucial.”

Over the course of the year-long course, students will participate in hands-on lab and theory instruction. Students will study subjects such as Lean Systems and Industrial Safety, Electrical Control Systems, Robotic Operations, Advanced Robotics, PLC Operations, Advanced PLC’s, and Industry 4.0.

The Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County was awarded the funds for the ten-student full ride scholarship through a grant from the Central Ohio Manufacturing Partnership, or COMP, through a desire to develop workers versed in entry-level automation and robotics industry demands.

Students interested in the new program can find all the information they need at C-TEC's website. C-TEC offers several programs from manufacturing, to medical assisting, massage and more.
