Madonna University introduces online Bachelor of Science in Allied Health program

The new online bachelor degree program is for individuals who are interested in working in allied health outside of direct patient care positions.

Madonna University launched a new online Bachelor of Science in Allied Health program at the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester. The new program is for individuals who are interested in pursuing careers in allied health that don’t involve direct patient care, such as community health, patient advocacy, health education, care coordination, or digital health communication.

According to an article on Madonna University’s website, Dr. Denise Brothers, who is an associate professor and the chair of Population Health and Aging, was quoted as saying, “Health care today happens everywhere, not just in hospitals. This program prepares students to improve health in communities, schools, nonprofit organizations, public health agencies, and online spaces where people access health information every day.”

The allied health program is ideal for students who want to work in an allied health setting but not provide the physical care for patients. These individuals will be able to choose a concentration within the degree program that reflects their personal interest, such as aging services, health education and coaching, behavioral and mental health, health care navigation and advocacy, and digital health communication. Students who are pursuing pre-professional coursework, such as pre-med, may also find the program to be a good fit for them, as it is flexible and covers topics like communication, community health, and helping patients navigate the complicated healthcare system.

Courses in the program include Navigating the U.S. Health Care System, Population Health Promotion, Health Communication Strategies, and Evidence-Based Scholarship Practice. Students will also complete a capstone project that allows them to apply their knowledge to real challenges facing healthcare.

On the program page for the new degree, Dr. Brothers said, “The future of health care depends on professionals who can educate, advocate, communicate, and connect with people where they live, work, learn, and engage online. Our Allied Health program prepares students to become leaders in health promotion, community wellness, and digital health communication while providing the flexibility to pursue a variety of rewarding career pathways. Students develop skills in health literacy, motivational interviewing, health communication, and advocacy, making them effective communicators and trusted health ambassadors.”
