The university will renovate and expand Pierce Hall, the home of its College of Business, in two phases. Phase I began with the groundbreaking ceremony on October 15.
Eastern Michigan University has officially broken ground on its renovation and expansion of Pierce Hall, the home of its College of Business. Phase I of the project began with the groundbreaking ceremony on October 15 and is expected to be completed by the Fall 2027 semester. The renovation and expansion will modernize the space and create a collaborative learning environment designed to prepare students to succeed in the world of business.
According to an article on Eastern Michigan University’s website, President Brendan Kelly was quoted as saying of the project, “Investing in the future of the College of Business is an investment in our students, our region and Michigan’s workforce. This project will create an environment where students can learn by doing, build meaningful connections with business and community leaders, and develop the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing economy. The transformation of Pierce Hall reflects Eastern’s commitment to providing our students with the spaces, experiences and opportunities they need to succeed.”
Among the renovations being completed within the project are infrastructure improvements like upgrades to the building’s chilled-water system, cooling tower, air handlers, and generator. The project will also make space for faculty and leadership on the third and fourth floors, and will create areas for dedicated learning, like modern classrooms and specialized labs, including the Stephen J. Klotz Financial Learning Center. Additionally, it will include an Executive Training Center and a Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, as well as a student HUB, breakout areas, and flexible meeting spaces. The building will also contain a Student Success Suite, which includes undergraduate and graduate advising, career services, internship support, and professional development.
Amy Hietapelto, dean of the College of Business, said, “The College of Business’ new home in a renovated and soon-to-be-expanded Pierce Hall represents Eastern Michigan University’s continued commitment to preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce in our region. The new home for the College of Business will provide contemporary educational spaces, collaborative meeting spaces and a gateway for faculty, student, community and industry engagement, designed to foster career readiness, innovation, collaboration and hands-on learning.”
Phase II of the project will expand upon the student-centered learning and collaboration spaces and will create space for innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce development.
