BridgeValley Community & Technical College hosts ribbon cutting ceremony for new Radiologic Technology laboratory

BridgeValley Community & Technical College hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Radiologic Technology laboratory created in partnership with WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals through its Thomas Foundation. The ceremony took place on September 24, 2026, and featured a gathering of President Dr. Chris Treadway, college leadership, representatives from WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals and other clinical partners, and Radiologic Technology faculty.

According to an article on BridgeValley Community & Technical College’s website, President Dr. Chris Treadway was quoted as saying of the new laboratory, "This laboratory represents an important investment in our students and the future of healthcare in our region. We're grateful for the support of WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals and the Thomas Foundation, whose commitment to our Radiologic Technology program reflects the value of strong partnerships between education and healthcare. Together, we're helping prepare the skilled professionals our communities need."

WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals has an ongoing partnership with BridgeValley and has committed $120,000 to the college’s Radiologic Technology program.

The new Radiologic Technology laboratory will allow students to receive hands-on training on equipment that mirrors the clinical equipment used in healthcare environments. Students will be able to practice radiographic positioning, exposure techniques, radiation protection, patient care procedures, and image evaluation, all under faculty supervision. 

In addition to the construction of the new laboratory, the Radiologic Technology program recently received accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). 

Russell Saunders, who serves as the professor and chair of the Department of Medical Imaging and program director of Radiologic Technology, said, "This is a significant milestone for Radiologic Technology education at BridgeValley. Our students now have an exceptional environment in which to connect classroom instruction with hands-on practice. Combined with our accreditation and clinical partnerships, the laboratory will help ensure they are prepared to succeed in clinical education and, ultimately, in the workforce."

Students in the Radiologic Technology program are able to complete clinical experience with WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals and other partner organizations, including Vandalia Health, Montgomery General Hospital, and Boone Memorial Hospital.
