Bluffton University has received a Choose Ohio First grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The $43,255 grant, which will be utilized over four years, will support students who are pursuing STEM education. This is the third time Bluffton University has received a Choose Ohio First grant.

According to an article on Bluffton University’s website, Dr. Alex Sider, who serves as the president of Bluffton University, was quoted as saying of the grant award, “At Bluffton University, we are committed to providing transformative educational opportunities for all students. We are grateful to the Ohio Department of Higher Education for this investment, which will help us support students with financial need and advance our mission of preparing graduates for lives of purpose.”

In accordance with the needs of the state’s workforce, students who are pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, communication sciences and disorders, environmental science, information technology, mathematics, mathematics education, medical laboratory science, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, pre-engineering, pre-occupational therapy, and pre-physical therapy will be eligible for financial support through Choose Ohio First.

In order to be eligible for Choose Ohio First funding, students must be enrolled in one of the aforementioned STEM programs, be enrolled with full-time status, reside within Ohio, and graduate from an Ohio high school.

Claire Kleman, who serves as the university’s vice president of enrollment and communication, said, “Bluffton’s health science and STEM-related programs continue to attract strong interest from prospective students. We are grateful for the opportunities made possible through the Choose Ohio First grant and look forward to expanding access for students pursuing careers in STEM fields while providing the support they need to succeed at Bluffton and beyond.”
