Conley H. Gregory Memorial Endowed Scholarship established at Somerset Community College

The Conley H. Gregory Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been established at Somerset Community College to support students from Wayne County who are enrolled in a technical or health sciences program. The scholarship honors the memory of Conley H. Gregory, who led a life of professional success, leadership, and generosity in the Wayne County community.

According to an article on Somerset Community College’s website, Dr. Ryan Quarles, who serves as the president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, was quoted as saying of the new scholarship, “At KCTCS, we believe that education changes lives, and scholarships like this help ensure that more Kentuckians have the opportunity to pursue a meaningful career without financial barriers standing in their way. The Gregory family’s generosity is an investment not only in Somerset Community College students, but also in the future workforce and economic strength of Wayne County, the surrounding region, and the Commonwealth. We are grateful for their commitment to creating opportunities that will benefit generations of students to come.”

Conley Gregory and his wife Joanna founded their own construction company in 1982. The company grew from a small operation to one that completed numerous projects around the Wayne County area. Outside of his business, he also impacted the community through his dedication to organizations like the Wayne County Hospital, the Wayne County Industrial Foundation, the Industrial Development Authority, the Wayne County Republican Party, and the Lincoln Club. 

His daughter, Sara Beth Gregory, commented, “My dad always appreciated the value of hard work and education, and he especially loved to see young people going into technical and healthcare fields. The opportunity to partner with Somerset Community College in creating this scholarship is a wonderful way to honor his memory.”

Dr. Carey Castle, SCC Chancellor, noted, "There is no better way to make a lasting impact on future generations than by establishing an endowed scholarship. An investment like this has the power to change lives for generations, opening doors to educational opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
