University of Tennessee Health Sciences College of Nursing receives grant to enhance student success initiatives
The grant funding comes from the Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF and the Hanover Family Foundation and will help support students as they pursue their nursing education.
The University of Tennessee Health Sciences College of Nursing has received a $530,000 grant from the Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF and the Hanover Family Foundation to support student success initiatives. The funding will support the establishment of a pre-enrollment “bootcamp,” academic coaching, individualized support, and add to the Dean’s Emergency Fund to provide students with financial relief during emergency situations.
According to an article on the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s website, Wendy Likes, PhD, DNSc, APRN-BC, FAANP, FAAN, who serves as the dean of the UT Health Sciences College of Nursing, was quoted as saying, “Student success is paramount to everything we do at the College of Nursing, and this generous investment by the Bedford Falls Foundation and the Hanover Family Foundation will provide the support students need to achieve their goals. These funds will allow the college to provide staff dedicated to tutoring and advising, as well as proactively address issues that could be barriers to success. We are grateful for this support in preparing compassionate nursing professionals for Tennessee.”
The funding will assist the College of Nursing in enhancing its student success initiatives and further prepare individuals to be qualified and competent nurses. The college already takes a student-centered approach to academic success and this funding will enhance those efforts. Among the initiatives that will be supported are academic coaching and individualized student support, a pre-enrollment “bootcamp” that will help students become ready and confident in their abilities before entering the program, and refine and strengthen historically challenging undergraduate courses. The college will also hire dedicated staff members who will work to connect students with resources throughout their nursing education. Additionally, the gift will add to the Dean’s Emergency Fund, which provides students with financial relief during emergency situations.
