The Academic Coaching and Comprehensive Educational Support Services program will provide students with academic tutoring in a range of skills.
West Virginia Wesleyan College recently announced that it has kicked off its Academic Coaching and Comprehensive Educational Support Services through The Learning Center and Office of Accessibility Services, which is nationally recognized. The new services are affordable and fee based, and were created to improve academic support and assist students to reach their full academic potential.
The Academic Coaching and Comprehensive Educational Support Services (or ACCESS) program is open to all Wesleyan College students, not just those who are already taking advantage of the resources at The Learning Center. The ACCESS program will provide professional tutoring in academic writing and editing, time management, study strategies, and reading skills in an individualized and high impact manner to provide effective academic support for the school’s students.
In an article posted on West Virginia Wesleyan College’s website, the director of The Learning Center and Accessibility Services, Anita Dib, was quoted about the ACCESS program, saying, “The ACCESS Program reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting students where they are and helping them thrive. We recognize that every student learns differently, and this program ensures they have the tools, strategies, and support needed for success both inside and outside the classroom.”
The ACCESS program will give weekly sessions between students and an academic coach on a one on one basis, as well as access to a reading specialist. The sessions will have a focus on developing skills in planning, notetaking, motivation, and time management. Tutors will also offer help with organizing and editing papers as well as sessions on memory techniques and test-taking strategies.
The Learning Center was founded back in 1963 by Phyllis Coston. Since then it has been the basis of academic support at West Virginia Wesleyan College providing study resources, writing assistance, and tutoring to students. The Learning Center is ranked among the top 20 schools by McMillan’s list of College with Learning Disability Programs. It is also listed among the 20 Great Colleges for Students with Learning Disabilities by Peterson’s.
The Learning Center’s Walk in tutoring program has been named by the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Program as a “long standing and polished program.”
Interested students can enroll in the ACCESS Program and learn more about available services at West Virginia Wesleyan College by visiting The Learning Center’s website.
