St Clair County Community College and Saginaw Valley State University form transfer pathway partnership

The institutions established a Memorandum of Understanding on April 9, 2026 which will give St Clair County Community College students the ability to stay in their community while earning bachelor and master’s degrees from Saginaw Valley State University.

On April 9, 2026, St Clair County Community College and Saginaw Valley State University signed a Memorandum of Understanding to solidify a partnership between the two schools that will make bachelor and master’s degrees more accessible to students in the Thumb and Southeast region of Michigan.

According to an article on St Clair County Community College’s website, George Grant Jr, who serves as the President of Saginaw Valley State University, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “Expanding educational offerings, degree pathways, internship experiences and more is good for our students, good for our communities, good for our employers and good for our state. Like SC4, we believe that students should be challenged in the classroom – we want them prepared in their career fields – but we want to remove confusion in other areas so students can focus on learning. These agreements are an important step in that direction and will help students build their careers to meet the workforce needs our employers face every day.”

As per the agreement, students from SC4 will be given guaranteed admission to Saginaw Valley State University. Students will have access to streamlined transfer pathways that will allow them to earn bachelor degrees and master’s degrees from the university on SC4’s campus, giving them the ability to earn degrees without leaving their home community. Additionally, the agreement establishes the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Concurrent Pathway Agreement, which allows students to enroll at both schools simultaneously, creating a faster pathway toward a nursing degree.

Kirk Kramer, the president of SC4, said, “This initiative is about removing barriers and expanding opportunity. Our organizations share a common vision of helping all students prepare for high demand careers. By bringing SVSU programs to the SC4 campus, students can earn advanced degrees close to home, saving time and money while staying connected to their community.”

The relationship between SC4 and SVSU will continue to evolve. Currently, the institutions are working out which university programs it will offer on the community college’s campus, beginning this fall. More programs and pathways will be rolled out in the future.
