University of Pikeville introduces new Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program

The new program will be housed within the university’s Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and will be a fully online program that will prepare students to enter into medical school, dental school, or other professional health careers.

The University of Pikeville is launching a new Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program within its Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. The online graduate program will prepare students for a variety of professional health careers or to enter into medical school, dental school, or optometry school. The priority application deadline is May 1, 2026.

According to an article on the University of Pikeville's website, Joe Kingery, D.O., MBA, FACOFP, FAAFP, the dean of the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine, was quoted as saying of the new program, “This program is intentionally structured to meet students where they are and help them move forward. Whether a student is looking to enhance their academic profile for professional school or advance within the health care field, this degree provides the scientific foundation, advising support and flexibility they need to succeed.”

The online graduate program is for 30 credit hours and does not include a thesis requirement. It is an accelerated program that can be completed within two years. The curriculum includes core courses like applied genetics, research, and biostatistics, and students can choose to tailor their courses to their interests through electives like leadership, social policy, mental health and addiction policy, artificial intelligence for communication strategies, and crisis communication.

The Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program is ideal for recent college graduates who are pursuing entrance into medical school, dental school, or optometry school, or who are seeking upward mobility within the healthcare field. Students in the program will receive instruction from faculty members who are biomedical and clinical science experts.

In order to be eligible to apply for the program, students must have a bachelor degree in a science-related subject and have a GPA of at least 2.75. Students must have taken general biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry with labs, and submit a personal statement, a resume or CV, letters of recommendation, and their official transcripts.

The deadline to apply via priority application is May 1, 2026.
