Ivy Tech Community College receives $3.4 million gift to support nursing students

The gift is directed toward the college’s Marion campus for the support of nursing students, making it the largest gift Ivy Tech Community College Marion has ever received.

Ivy Tech Community College’s Marion campus is receiving a $3.4 million gift from the Brickley Farm Foundation to support its nursing students via the creation of the Dr. Harry Brickley Nursing Scholarship Program. It is the largest gift the Marion campus has ever received, and will serve to help more students access nursing education and improve the region’s healthcare workforce.

According to an article on Ivy Tech Community College’s website, Dr. Marty Pollio, who serves as the president of Ivy Tech Community College, was quoted as saying of the gift, “We are so thankful to Dr. Harry Brickley and the Brickley Farm Foundation for investing in our students as they pursue nursing careers that are in high demand. This gift will help Ivy Tech continue to address the need for quality nurses in the Marion community and around the state.”

The Dr. Harry Brickley Nursing Scholarship Program will begin in the 2026-2027 school year, in which it will cover the full tuition and total fees of up to 30 students in Ivy Tech Community College’s nursing program. The goal is to support at least 180 nursing students over the next six years, which would cost $1.98 million, with renewal of the gift possible for up to four years, which would total $3.4 million.

The scholarship will go to students who are in the nursing program at Ivy Tech Community College’s nursing program who come from Norwell, Bluffton, Southern Wells, Blackford, and Huntington high schools, and Grant County high schools. Students will be eligible for the scholarship beginning with their first year of the program and it can be renewed for five consecutive semesters.

Ivy Tech Community College has 88 nursing students currently studying at its Marion campus. The college is the largest producer of associate degree level nurses in the country.

Speaking of his decision to set up this scholarship program, which he established in memory of his parents, Harry and Ina Brickley, Dr. Brickley said, “As a longtime healthcare provider, I know firsthand the importance of nurses and the need for them in our community and across the state. I hope to see continued support for all that Ivy Tech does for Indiana communities.”

Dr. Brickley has been a longtime supporter of Ivy Tech Community College. He has given financial support for scholarships and has donated land for the college’s agriculture programs. He is a surgeon and also established a farm operation in the communities around Bluffton. He founded the Dr. Harry Brickley Farm Foundation in 2016.
