Tennessee State University and Nashville State Community College partner for Tiger Track Transfer Program

The program will create a seamless transfer pathway for students who earn an associate degree at Nashville State Community College to continue on to earn a bachelor degree from Tennessee State University.

Tennessee State University and Nashville State Community College have partnered for the newly launched Tiger Track Transfer Program, a seamless transfer pathway that will help individuals who earn an associate degree move on to completing a bachelor degree. The partnership will make it more simple, and more affordable, for students to earn bachelor degrees through the cooperation and partnership of both institutions.

According to an article on Tennessee State University’s website, Dr. Shanna Jackson, who serves as the president of Nashville State Community College and is an alumna of Tennessee State University, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “This partnership ensures that students are supported, empowering them with clear pathways and confidence to reach their academic and career goals. Education is the strongest ladder to economic mobility. I am excited to take our partnership with TSU to the next level. This is a win for students, employers, and our shared community.”

The Tiger Track Transfer Program will allow students who are not ready to start at the four-year Tennessee State University to begin their education at Nashville State Community College, receiving the support and resources of both institutions. While students will be encouraged to complete an associate degree at the community college before transferring, they will be able to do so at any time. These students will receive guaranteed admission to the university, waived application fees, enrollment counseling, and a $3,000 annual scholarship.

Dwayne Tucker, the president of Tennessee State University, noted that the program was designed to remove barriers for students who are interested in earning their bachelor degree. He said, “Through this partnership, we are ensuring that Nashville State students have the support, resources, and opportunities they need to seamlessly transition to TSU. We are proud to provide a high caliber academic environment where students can complete their degrees and prepare to lead in a global workforce.”

Dr. Eric Stokes, the vice president of enrollment management at Tennessee State University, said, “It’s important for us to have a strong partnership as students move throughout the higher education pipeline. This gives students the opportunity to stay connected to TSU while they’re at Nashville State, so they can clearly see that next step.”

One student who has already chosen to take advantage of the Tiger Track Transfer Program is current Nashville State Community College student Julise LaFortune. Speaking of her plans to transfer to the university, she said, “I’ve always wanted to attend an HBCU, and after hearing great things about TSU, I’m excited to give it a shot. I’m in my second year at Nashville State, and I plan to transfer to TSU to complete my bachelor’s degree and eventually pursue my master’s. For me, the process feels seamless. I’m excited to learn and further my education.”
