Ivy Tech Community College has announced a new Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program that will begin in the Summer 2026 semester, as well as a new partnership with Deaconess Midtown Hospital that will provide clinical learning opportunities for students in various healthcare programs.
According to an article on Ivy Tech Community College’s website, Daniela Vidal, who serves as the chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College’s Evansville campus, was quoted as saying during these announcements, “At Ivy Tech Evansville, our responsibility is to respond directly to the workforce needs of our region. By launching the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program and partnering with Deaconess Health System, we are creating a local pathway for students to enter high-demand healthcare careers. This collaboration strengthens our community’s healthcare workforce while giving students hands-on experience, industry-recognized credentials, and a direct connection to employment opportunities right here in Southwestern Indiana.”
Vidal added, “We are so pleased to announce that not only will we have a brand new Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program offered in Ivy Tech Evansville’s Frank L. Hilton M.D. School of Health Sciences beginning this summer; but also a new partnership with Deaconess Health System providing space on the Midtown Deaconess campus for classes and clinical work-based learning opportunities for students.”
The new Certified Medical Assistant program will begin in May during the Summer 2026 semester. Classes will meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from May 26 to July 31. Students in the program will learn how to perform a variety of support tasks including taking vitals, drawing blood, administering injections, and administrative duties.
Students may be eligible to complete the program for free through Indiana’s Next Level Jobs Workforce Ready Grant. Students who complete the program will earn a certificate and will be able to earn certification by passing an exam from the National Healthcareer Association.
Ivy Tech Community College’s partnership with Deaconess Health Systems began in the Fall 2025 semester when it began offering the Technical Certificate program in Phlebotomy.
Dawn Rowley, who serves as the Vice President of Nursing and Patient Care Services at Deaconess, said, “These are exciting programs to have on our Midtown campus. We look forward to helping shape the future generation of caregivers.”
Dr. Brad Scheu, the Indiana Region President for Deaconess, said, “We are pleased to expand our partnership with Ivy Tech through this program. Deaconess remains committed to providing high-quality care close to home, and we are equally proud to support the education and training of the next generation of caregivers in our community.”
