The gift comes from Gordon and Shaun Inman to establish an endowed scholarship and support the university’s nursing transfer program.
Belmont University’s Gordon E. Inman College of Nursing has received $1 million in support from Gordon and Shaun Inman. The couple has given this gift to establish the Gordon and Shaun Inman Endowed Scholarship and to support the university’s existing Nursing, BSN: Community College Bridge Program, which helps students take on a lesser financial burden by starting their nursing education at a community college before transferring to Belmont University. This latest gift reflects a longstanding relationship the Inmans have with the university.
According to an article on Belmont University’s website, Dr. Julie Honey, who serves as the dean of the Gordon E. Inman College of Nursing, was quoted as saying of the gift, "Gordon and Shaun's generosity is woven into the fabric of our College, and this gift reflects their enduring belief in what nursing education can do for students and for our state. Their scholarship will honor students who embody the same spirit of purpose and service that has defined Gordon and Shaun's own legacy. By investing in our college, they are ensuring that students from across Tennessee can pursue a nursing degree at Belmont.”
The gift will be split to support two initiatives: the establishment of the Gordon and Shaun Inman Endowed Scholarship and support for the existing Nursing, BSN: Community College Bridge Program. Both of these efforts work to make a nursing education and degree attainable for more individuals by removing financial barriers that can make pursuit of the profession difficult.
Speaking of their decision to help support students' work toward a career in nursing, the Inmans noted, "Nursing has always held a special place in our hearts. We have watched this college grow into a leader in nursing education, shaping the next generation of Tennessee's nurses, and we are proud to invest in that mission. Tennessee needs skilled, compassionate nurses now more than ever, and we hope this gift opens doors for students who are ready to answer that call."
The Inmans have had a longstanding relationship with the university. Their generosity is what made possible the building of the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Sciences and Nursing facility. Gordon is trustee emeritus on the Belmont University Board of Trustees.
University president Dr. Greg Jones said, "We are deeply grateful to Gordon and Shaun for once again investing in our students and our mission. Their commitment to nursing education runs deep, and this gift ensures that more students across Tennessee can access the exceptional preparation for which Belmont is known. We are honored to build on a partnership that has shaped this university for decades.”
