The Veterinary Technology department at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College has received a gift in the amount of $300,000 to renovate its academic building. The gift comes from the L&L Nippert Charitable Foundation, which owns Greenacres Farm in Indian Hill, representing a longstanding partnership between the university and the farm. The renovations will help the Veterinary Technology program meet accreditation requirements.
According to an article on the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College’s website, Jennifer Wells, DVM, who serves as the chair of the UC Blue Ash Veterinary Department, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “This valued partnership provides our students with hands-on access to large animals while enabling them to deliver important veterinary care. The increased support toward funding the Veterinary Technology Building renovation is a significant benefit and will allow our program to enhance student learning spaces and office areas.”
The majority of the funding will go toward the building renovations, which will include the creation of an intake/exam room, a student lounge, student support spaces, and the reconfiguring of existing office spaces. The Veterinary Technology Building first opened in 2005 and currently includes a laboratory, surgery room, classroom, and offices.
The remainder of the funding will be used for the purchase of vaccines and supplies that the veterinary technology program uses for the horses and cattle at Greenacres Farm. Students in the program visit Greenacres Farm a few times each semester to give students more opportunities to work directly with farm animals as part of the farm’s 13-year partnership with the university. Additionally, students will visit animal shelters and other sites in the community.
UC Blue Ash College’s Dean Robin Lightner, PhD., said of the partnership, “We are grateful for this generous grant and ongoing support from the L&L Nippert Charitable Foundation. It reflects the strong community ties and reputation for producing excellent graduates that our Veterinary Technology Program has developed over the past 50-plus years.”
The L&L Nippert Charitable Foundation has supported the program in several ways over the years, including through veterinary technology student scholarships and funding for vaccines and supplies. This is the organization’s largest gift to date.
