Baldwin Wallace University receives Choose Ohio First grant funding

This is the seventh consecutive year that the State of Ohio has awarded the university with Choose Ohio First funding to support STEM education.

Baldwin Wallace University has received its seventh consecutive year of Choose Ohio First funding from the State of Ohio. The grant funding, which in this round totals $537,820,  is utilized at the university to support students who are pursuing STEM education through scholarships and the university’s STEM Scholars program, which provides additional support and opportunities for students in science, technology, engineering, and math programs.

In an article on Baldwin Wallace University’s website, the STEM Scholars program is described as a program into which students who are pursuing STEM programs and are awarded a Choose Ohio First scholarship are automatically entered into as a means of providing these students with academic enrichment and experiential learning opportunities that will benefit them in their pursuit of science, technology, engineering, and math programs. There are currently 140 students enrolled into the STEM Scholars program, each of whom has received a Choose Ohio First scholarship.

Also supported by Choose Ohio First funding at Baldwin Wallace University is the Rural Health Scholars Program, which is open to students who are pursuing health science majors and programs. According to the Rural Health Scholars Program webpage, the program is for “students who are passionate about improving healthcare access, supporting underserved populations, and building a future in a high‑impact health profession.”

In order to be eligible for the Rural Health Scholars Program at Baldwin Wallace University, the student must be enrolled in biology, chemistry, communication sciences and disorders, community health education promotion, education (integrated mathematics, integrated science, and life science), exercise science, neuroscience, nursing, or pre-allied health/pre-physical therapy as an undergraduate student, or in accelerated bachelor of science in nursing, clinical mental health counseling, physician assistant, or speech-language pathology as a graduate student.
