Jackson College is celebrating the opening of its new Applied Technology Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 16, 2026 at 5pm. The Applied Technology Center will allow the college to participate in the region’s workforce development by training students to work in high-demand careers that will support the community’s infrastructure and development.
According to an article on Jackson College’s website, the college’s president, Dr. Daniel J. Phelan, was quoted as saying of the new Applied Technology Center, “The Jackson College Applied Technology Center is a bold investment in the future of our students and the strength of our region. With flexible, hands-on learning spaces, supporting utilities, energy, HVAC, renewable energy, and Industry 4.0, including the kind of indoor/outdoor training our employers are asking for, students will graduate ready to step confidently into high-demand careers. This building is about opportunity: building talent, strengthening local industry, and helping Jackson County thrive for decades to come.”
The Applied Technology Center was developed in collaboration with community partners and industry leaders to ensure the Center and the college are providing the types of training and opportunities that will benefit the local workforce’s needs. The center includes flexible learning spaces, an outdoor training area to allow ample space for utilities training, two program bay areas, and hands-on training opportunities.
The facility provides space for individuals training in the college’s new HVAC program and in its utilities programs, including the Energy Systems Association Degree, Utilities Technician, and HVAC Technician Certificate programs.
Jamie Vandenburgh, the college’s dean of Workforce, Technical, and Professional Education, said, “This new facility reflects what’s possible when education and industry work together. The Applied Technology Center gives students access to modern equipment, real-world training environments, and clear pathways into essential careers that keep our communities running.”
