Morehead State University establishes Ron and Ruth Wilson Lykins Tuition Scholarship
The new scholarship was established by alumnus Dr. Ron Lykins and his wife to provide a full-tuition scholarship to a first-year student from Adams County, Ohio.
Morehead State University has a new scholarship available for students who hail from Adams County, Ohio, thanks to alumnus Dr. Ron Lykins and his wife, Ruth Wilson Lykins. The Ron and Ruth Wilson Lykins Tuition Scholarship was first awarded in the Fall 2025 semester and will continue to be awarded thanks to the endowment.
According to an article on Morehead State University’s website, Drake Walker, a first-year music education student from West Union, Ohio who became the first recipient of the scholarship, was quoted as saying, “The Ron and Ruth Wilson Lykins Tuition Scholarship has opened doors for me in my life and my career and has encouraged me in many ways.”
The Ron and Ruth Wilson Lykins Tuition Scholarship will provide first-year students from Adams County, Ohio with a full-tuition scholarship to attend Morehead State University. If students maintain a 3.0 grade point average, the scholarship is renewable for up to three additional academic years following their first award. Ron Lykins’ estate is planned in such a way that the endowment will continue to grow, allowing for additional awards in the future.
Lykins graduated from Morehead State University in 1964 with a bachelor degree in accounting, becoming the first member of his family, alongside his brother, to graduate from high school. He then attended Ohio University, earning a master’s degree in business administration, a PhD, and a CPA certification. It was at Ohio University that Lykins met his future wife, Ruth Wilson, and started their family. Throughout his career, Lykins became an adjunct professor at Capital University and Ohio University, as well as the owner of a CPA practice.
Ruth Wilson Lykins passed away in 2013 and Ron Lykins chose to honor her memory by creating a scholarship endowment at Ohio University. Now, he has also decided to set one up at his first alma mater, Morehead State University, as well.
The Ron and Ruth Wilson Lykins Tuition Scholarship will open up education to students who may otherwise not be able to pursue their dream careers, creating possibility and accessibility for more students.
