Larry and Carol Weaver Endowed Scholarship Fund for Pharmacy Students established at Ohio Northern University

The scholarship was established to support pharmacy students by Larry Weaver, a university alumnus, who wants to pay it forward following his positive experience at the university.

The Larry and Carol Weaver Endowed Scholarship Fund for Pharmacy Students has been established at Ohio Northern University. The scholarship has been established as a way for Larry Weaver, who graduated from the university with a degree in pharmacy in 1974, to pay it forward. He met his wife, Carol, working in the pharmacy, and the two have enjoyed lifelong pharmacy careers, which began for Larry at Ohio Northern University.

According to an article on Ohio Northern University’s website, Stuart Beatty, PharmD ’03, who serves as the dean of the Raabe College of Pharmacy, shared his gratitude for the Weavers for establishing the scholarship. He is quoted as saying, “Most of our students are similar to Larry when he was in school, and the opportunity to receive a scholarship can have a profound impact on their education and ability to impact others. We thank the Weavers for the care they provided to their neighbors, and the impact this scholarship will have to provide care to so many others.”

Larry Weaver received a $1,000 scholarship for each of the five years he studied at Ohio Northern University, and credits that scholarship for his ability to achieve his pharmacy degree. He enjoyed the well-rounded education he received from the university and the several important relationships he formed along the way, including with Professor Tom Gossel, BSPh ’63, Hon.D. ’17, who served as his mentor and role model.

Larry became a retail pharmacist at Revco, which later became CVS, and worked alongside pharmacy technician Carol, whom he later married. Larry and Carol recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. The two have worked in CVS Pharmacies for their entire careers, in Painesville, Willoughby, Mentor, and Wickliffe, Ohio.

Speaking of his career working in neighborhood retail pharmacies, Larry said, “Part of the satisfaction was seeing somebody come in with a baby, and then before you know it, that baby would be an adult with children of their own.”

Of his and his wife’s decision to set up the scholarship fund, Larry said, “In the back of my mind, all these years, I knew I wanted to pay it forward someday. When the opportunity arose, Carol and I were happy to establish a scholarship. ONU and its students are successful because so many alumni have given back over the years. Carol and I are appreciative of the role that ONU played in our lives, and we hope our scholarship will make a difference.”
