The recent gifts include $2,125,000 from the Morey Foundation, which will name the new event center, and $100,000 from the Strosacker Foundation.
Mid Michigan College is currently undergoing a fundraising campaign entitled “Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow,” which aims to raise money for various campus and college improvements. Among the efforts being funded by the campaign is the construction of a new events center that will serve as the home of the college’s Men’s and Women’s basketball teams, as well as a space for community connections, commencement ceremonies, events, and guest speakers to address students. Two recent gifts to the fundraising campaigns come in support of the new events center. The first gift, in the amount of $2,125,000 from the Morey Foundation, will name the new building the Morey Events Center. The second gift, in the amount of $100,000 from the Strosacker Foundation, will help continue construction and planning efforts.
According to a webpage dedicated to the “Rooted in Community, Growing for Tomorrow” campaign, Michael Huenemann of Isabella Bank, the campaign co-chair, described the mission of the campaign “to broaden access to state-of-the-art technologies, create a home for Mid’s athletic teams and commencement ceremonies, upgrade our Health Science Labs, and enhance campus spaces to provide an even more engaging student experience. This campaign is about more than new buildings—it's about expanding opportunities, strengthening our workforce, and making Mid a place where even more students can thrive.”
In an article that covers the donation from the Morey Foundation, Alexa Carey, the Executive Director of the Mid Michigan College Foundation, was quoted as saying of the donation, “The Morey Foundation’s support will create a vibrant hub for students, community members, and regional partners. It strengthens both our campus and the community we serve.”
The donation from the Morey Foundation included $2 million to support construction, which began in the fall of 2025, and the naming of the building. Their gift also included $125,000 to match employee contributions.
Erik Spindler, the Executive Director of the Morey Foundation, said, “We are honored to support Mid Michigan College during this pivotal moment. This campaign ensures students and the regional workforce have the resources they need to succeed.”
In a separate article on Mid Michigan College’s website, Carey is quoted as saying of the Strosacker Foundation’s $100,000 gift in support of the Morey Event Center, “The Strosacker Foundation’s gift is helping make the Morey Event Center a reality and will support Laker Athletics and community events for years to come. We are grateful for their partnership and commitment to students and the broader community.”
Kimberlee Baczewski, who serves as the President and CEO of the Strosacker Foundation, said, “We are proud to support Mid Michigan College and a project that will positively impact students, athletics, and the broader community. The Morey Event Center will be a place where learning, athletics, and community come together.”
