Montcalm Community College receives donation to stock campus food pantry

The donation of $1,000 comes from the Montcalm County Farm Bureau, which will be doubled by the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund, resulting in $2,000 for the college’s food pantry.

Montcalm Community College has received a total of $2,000 to help stock the campus food pantry, thanks to an initial $1,000 donation from the Montcalm County Farm Bureau, which was doubled by the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund. The ACF Double-Up Donation Program works to help combat food insecurity in the communities serviced by counties’ Farm Bureau agencies.

According to an article on Montcalm Community College’s website, Melissa Gustavison, the Montcalm County Farm Bureau Administrative Manager, was quoted as saying, “The county works closely with the college and the students in their agriculture programs, as well as hosting the county’s Project RED onsite. The student-run food pantry on campus provides food to other students in need and their families free of charge. They are also hoping to expand the services to provide snack stations throughout campus for those who can’t afford lunch while onsite taking classes.”

Montcalm County Farm Bureau has supported the college and its foundation over the years, and this newest donation will make double the impact through the ACF Double-Up Donation Program. In order to be eligible for a doubled donation, first the county Farm Bureau had to select a program, in this case, the college’s food pantry, to support, and then the donation is reviewed by the ACF Double-Up Donation Program. A program is selected to have its donation doubled based on needs of the community, how many people are being served, and what the program is trying to accomplish.

The mission of the ACF, which is administered through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, is to end hunger in Michigan.
