Maysville Community and Technical College to move redesigned paramedic program to Rowan Campus

The college received a federal grant in 2023 to redesign an existing program in a high-demand field of employment. The paramedic program was redesigned and will now move to the college’s Rowan Campus.

Maysville Community and Technical College’s paramedic program was recently redesigned thanks to receiving a $2.3 million Title III Strengthening Institutions grant from the US Department of Education in 2023. The grant gave institutions funding to redesign existing programs or establish new academic programs that would prepare students for work in high-demand technical fields. After the redesigned program launched in the Spring 2025 semester, it is now relocating to the college’s Rowan Campus.

According to an article on Maysville Community and Technical College’s website, Donnie Fryman, who serves as the college’s Health Science Technology Program Coordinator, was quoted as saying of the program redesign, “This has been a long-standing goal for our institution, and we are excited to see it come to fruition. Our commitment to serving local communities drives us to strengthen resources and provide exceptional training opportunities for future first responders. Our graduates are the backbone of emergency care in this region. By bringing this program to Rowan County, we’re investing in the health and safety of our communities.”

The previous program was redesigned into a hybrid 15-month program that provides graduates with an associate of applied science degree in EMS-Paramedic. The program uses hands-on training to prepare students to become first responders who assist patients before they enter a hospital. They will be prepared to respond to medical emergencies, assess patients, and provide life-saving care. Students will have access to an ambulance simulator during the program to help them prepare for real-life emergency scenarios.

Individuals who are already working as licensed EMTs will learn additional skills that will further prepare them for paramedic work.

The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and is a Work Ready Kentucky Eligible program.
