Valparaiso University forms partnership with Harper College

The two institutions have formed an articulation agreement that will give students who earn an associate degree in engineering a pathway into a bachelor degree engineering program.

Valparaiso University and Harper College of Palatine, Illinois have formed a partnership that will make it easier for students to pursue an engineering education. The articulation agreement will give students who have earned an associate degree in Engineering Science from Harper College guaranteed acceptance into Valparaiso University’s College of Engineering, giving them a streamlined pathway for earning a bachelor degree in engineering.

According to an article on Valparaiso University’s website, Doug Tougaw, Ph.D., P.E., who serves as the dean of engineering at Valparaiso University, was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “We’re very excited to partner with Harper College in creating a seamless pathway for engineering students to continue their academic journey at Valparaiso University. Harper engineering students who transfer to Valpo will find a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that emphasizes both technical excellence and real-world impact. Working with our dedicated faculty in state-of-the-art facilities, these students will be well-prepared to become innovative engineers and ethical leaders in their fields.”

In order to be eligible for the articulation agreement, students from Harper College must have achieved a grade point average of at least a 3.0. Students must apply during their second year at Harper College and be prepared to begin studying at Valparaiso University in the next fall semester. Students who transfer will have the opportunity to qualify for all scholarships and other benefits and opportunities as traditional Valparaiso students.

When entering the university’s College of Engineering, students will be able to pursue degrees in civil, computer, mechanical, and electrical engineering, and will be able to participate in interdisciplinary engineering opportunities to further their education and their skills.

Eric Johnson, who serves as the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, said, “This agreement represents an amazing opportunity for future engineers, and for our institutes. Valparaiso University’s engineering program is recognized as one of the top in the nation, and helping as many students as possible to benefit from our expert faculty is a core part of our mission.”
