The college has received a $25,000 grant that will support the renovation of the Morey Technical Education Center, first built in 2015.
Mid Michigan College has received $25,000 from the Consumers Energy Foundation to help support the renovation of the college’s Morey Technical Education Center. The Morey Technical Education Center was first built in 2015 through a donation from the Morey Foundation, and the renovations will allow the college to provide more training for in-demand careers in manufacturing and related fields.
According to an article on Mid Michigan College’s website, Alexa Carey, who serves as the Executive Director of the Mid Michigan College Foundation, was quoted as saying of the donation, “We are grateful to the Consumers Energy Foundation for their generous support. This renovation was inspired by the vision of local employers, and we’re proud to partner with community supporters to bring that vision to life. We’re excited to see this space transformed with state-of-the-art technologies that reflect the future of manufacturing. And we deeply appreciate the ongoing support of partners like Consumers.”
The renovation project will bring the Morey Technical Education Center up to date with technology and equipment that will mirror what students can expect to find in the manufacturing industry. New equipment, which is funded in part by the Consumers Energy Foundation grant, a state grant, and private fundraising, includes CNC machines, welding bays, robotic simulators, and 3D printers, among other technologies.
Cathy Wilson, who serves as the secretary and treasurer of the Consumers Energy Foundation, said, “At the Consumers Energy Foundation, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. The Consumers Energy Foundation is proud to support Mid Michigan College’s renovation, which will equip students with the skills and experience needed to thrive in Michigan’s rapidly evolving technical and manufacturing industries. Their work aligns with our commitment to workforce development and ensuring everyone has access to cutting-edge training and career opportunities.”
