Eastern Kentucky University partners with Kentucky Community and Technical College System for transfer agreement

The university and KCTCS have expanded their existing partnership to bring their transfer agreements to every community college within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Eastern Kentucky University and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System have strengthened and expanded their relationship by bringing their existing transfer agreements into effect for all 16 of the KCTCS community colleges. These transfer agreements will make it easier and more affordable for students around the state to begin their college education at a community college and then pursue a bachelor degree at Eastern Kentucky University.

According to an article on Eastern Kentucky University’s website, David McFaddin, the university’s president, was quoted as saying of the expansion of the partnership, “We have long been partners with KCTCS with more students transferring from KCTCS to EKU than any other university, and we’re proud to be the top choice for transfer students. This extended partnership reinforces our mission of access, affordability and student success and demonstrates a shared commitment to removing barriers to higher education for Kentuckians.”

Eastern Kentucky University has 23 transfer pathways students can follow to continue their education after transferring from a KCTCS school. The overall goal of the transfer agreements is to remove barriers that keep students from pursuing their education, and the agreements feature opportunities like specific scholarships, advising, free textbooks, reverse transfer, and joint admission options.

Eastern Kentucky University remains a popular choice for transfer students who complete their time at a community college. In the 2023-2024 school year, 595 students joined the university from a community college in the state. Eastern Kentucky University received recognition from Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll in 2025, which ranks four-year schools in the ease and acceptance of transfer students.

KCTCS President Ryan Quarles said of the relationship between the institutions, “Our students prove time and again that they’re ready to succeed at the university level by earning an average 3.6 GPA post-transfer. I’m grateful to President McFaddin for his leadership to put students first and expand our collective impact across the commonwealth.”
