Ferris State University partners with Protocall Services for 24/7 student mental health support

The partnership will equip the university’s Personal Counseling Center with the ability to provide the campus community with round-the-clock mental healthcare support.

Ferris State University’s Personal Counseling Center has partnered with Protocall Services for the ability to provide students and faculty with 24/7 mental health care and mental wellness crisis support. Protocall is a Portland, Oregon-based organization that has been providing these services nationwide since 1992. For students currently enrolled at Ferris State University, this round-the-clock mental health support is available for free.

According to an article on Ferris State University's website, Andy Slater, who serves as the Director of the Personal Counseling Center, was quoted as saying of the new service, "The service will have a significant impact on all of our students at both Big Rapids and Grand Rapids campuses. In addition to helping our students who may find themselves in a mental health crisis, the service will be a new tool for Ferris State faculty and staff to use as they support students in need."

The Personal Counseling Center is on the second floor of the Birkam Health Center on the Big Rapids, Michigan campus. Students and staff can access appointments for mental health help, or walk-in assistance is available at 3pm on weekdays. Thanks to the new partnership with Protocall, students and staff can also access round-the-clock care by calling 231-591-HELP (4357).

Protocall has licensed mental health professionals and trained clinicians available to answer calls 24/7. These professionals will be able to offer immediate emotional support, perform safety assessments, and provide de-escalation in crisis and emergency situations.
