The college has designed new online courses to support high school students as they navigate their first college experiences through Early College and Dual Enrollment.
Beginning with the Fall 2025 semester, Early College and Dual Enrollment students at Bay College will have additional support programs to help them ease into college coursework. The college has designed an initiative that uses a cohort system to provide extra help specifically for high school students taking their first college courses through the college’s Early College and Dual Enrollment programs.
According to an article on Bay College’s website, Jessica LaMarch, who serves as the college’s Director of Dual Enrollment and Early College, was quoted as saying of the new support services, "You spoke, we listened. We heard from educators and families that first-time DE and EC students need more support and structure—and we're responding with a program that's built just for them."
The new cohort system for these students will place them in specific sections of online courses that will be taught by college instructors who are dedicated to student development. Courses available in this model include Rhetoric & Composition, Interpersonal Communication, Sociology, Introduction to Psychology, and College Success Strategies.
Additionally, students in the Early College and Dual Enrollment courses will have access to Open Educational Resources, which will lead to lower learning costs when OER is available for their courses’ materials. There will also be incorporated First Year Experience programming into the students’ courses in order to ensure they are receiving both personal and academic support.
