Terra State Community College Athletic Department receives NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant

Terra State Community College has received a grant to support the college’s newly added Cross Country program, which will begin competing in the fall.

Terra State Community College’s Athletic Department recently received a Sport Opportunity Grant from the National Junior College Athletic Association. The grant will support the college’s newly established Cross Country program. The Cross Country program will begin competing in the Fall 2025 semester.

According to an article on Terra State Community College’s website, Lindi Cahill, the college’s Athletic Director, was quoted as saying, “Terra State Athletics provides avenues for students to continue pursuing competitive sports, to positively add to the college’s environment, to be ambassadors for Terra, and to help provide an identity and spirit for students, faculty, and staff. I am very grateful for the gift the NJCAA Foundation is providing for even more student athletes to pursue their academic and athletic goals and dreams. Terra State is very proud to be part of the “Opportunities Start Here” movement in NJCAA sports.”

The NJCAA Athletic Opportunity Grant was created by the National Junior College Athletic Association to support the association’s sports, including the addition of and the sustainability of its sport programs.

Andrew Givens, who serves as the NJCAA Foundation’s Executive Director, said, “The NJCAA Foundation is excited to further support the growth of NJCAA member colleges and the sport programs they offer through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant. The ability to provide this funding is a testament to the importance and growth of two-year collegiate athletics. The NJCAA Foundation looks forward to this initiative’s impact as NJCAA member colleges continue to create opportunities for student-athletes across the country.”

The new Cross Country program at Terra State Community College will begin competing in the Fall 2025 semester under the guidance of head coach Mark Ingalls. Other sports programs the college offers include Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Baseball and Softball. All of these programs compete in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association.
