Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College expands partnership agreement with Lindsey Wilson College

The two schools have had a partnership agreement in place for 23 years and this new expansion will allow them to offer a new hybrid human services and counseling degree program.

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and Lindsey Wilson College have expanded their decades-long partnership to include a hybrid human services and counseling degree program on the Middlesboro campus. Up until now, the partner program was only available at SKCTC’s Cumberland campus.

According to an article on Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College’s website, Dr. Patsy Jackson, who serves as the interim president of SKCTC, was quoted as saying of the expanded agreement, “This is an amazing opportunity to bring higher education partners together in a way that truly supports adult learners. Many students want the support of a cohort and the in-person classroom experience, and this program delivers exactly that.”

The program offers a flexible format to cater to working adults, as well as to those who prefer learning face-to-face instead of virtually. This program provides in-person weekend classes, with online support throughout the week. The outcome of the program is a human services and counseling bachelor degree and skills that can be applied in careers in mental health and addiction recovery.

The hybrid program was already available at the Cumberland campus of SKCTC, and now will be available at the Middlesboro campus as well, with both institutions emphasizing that the program is not being moved, it is being expanded and fully offered at both locations. Jason Weaver, a licensed counselor who is in charge of enrollment for the program at Cumberland, will now handle enrollment at Middlesboro, as well.

Dr. Tommie Ann Saragas, who is the assistant vice president of educational outreach for online and graduate programs at Lindsey Wilson College, along with Dr. Kimberly Brown, the school’s Regional Academic Director, were both among the first adult learners to graduate from the program at the Cumberland campus.

Saragas said, “We know how powerful this program can be—it changed our lives.”

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and Lindsey Wilson College have enjoyed a 23-year transfer partnership agreement that continues to expand.
