The gift, which is in excess of $850,000, comes from the estate of Mildred “Susie” Bowling.
Ashland Community and Technical College has received a gift from the estate of Mildred “Susie” Bowling to establish a scholarship for students to pursue their education at the college. The gift totals more than $850,000 and will have a profound impact on the future of Ashland Community and Technical College.
According to an article on Ashland Community and Technical College’s website, Kim Minnehan, ACTC’s advancement administrator, was quoted as saying of the gift, “We are deeply grateful for this extraordinary gift from extraordinary people. Their belief in the power of a community and technical college education, and in the students we serve, will leave a lasting legacy at ACTC. This incredible generosity will open doors for countless students in the years to come, and their kindness will forever be felt on our campus and in our community.”
Susie and her husband Jack were both graduates of Boyd County High School and were raised in families that extolled the virtues of hard work and education to advance one’s station in life. Susie and Jack wished to give this funding to the college in order to help others reach their goals in life and to be able to afford higher education.
Jack passed away in 2016 after a long career with AK Steel, and Susie passed away in 2024.
