The Esports and Gaming Content Creation concentration through the College of Media and Entertainment and the Esports Coaching concentration offered through Leisure and Sports Management will utilize the university’s newly opened Level Up Arena and the Gaming Lab.
Middle Tennessee State University is offering students two new opportunities to explore esports through concentrations within the College of Media and Entertainment and the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences’s Leisure and Sports Management. The Esports and Gaming Content Creation concentration and the Esports Coaching concentration will provide students with a pathway into the esports industry.
According to an article on Middle Tennessee State University’s website, Richard Lewis, who serves as the esports and content creation coordinator and an associate professor, said of the new opportunities, “Students will have the opportunity to learn about the variety of skills needed in the esports industry and learn specialized skills in areas in which they want to focus. There are hands-on experience opportunities working with the MTSU Esports club and a number of community organizations while earning their degree.”
The Esports and Gaming Content Creation concentration, which is available under the Media and Entertainment degree program, focuses on the marketing, technology, and ethics needed to successfully create streams and other gaming content. The Esports Coaching concentration, part of Leisure and Sport Management, will provide students with the skills they need to coach esports teams at the high school, college, or professional level.
The university recently opened its new Level Up Arena, which students pursuing these concentrations will be able to utilize during their studies. The Level Up Arena houses consoles as well as professional-grade streaming and broadcasting equipment, and students can play games and stream them or watch tournaments. The university also has a Gaming Lab with PCs and Nintendo Switches.
