Walters State Community College has a new scholarship to offer engineering and engineering technology students thanks to Morristown Utilities. The new scholarship has been established by Morristown Utilities with a $5,000 gift.

According to an article on Walters State Community College’s website, Jody Wigington, who serves as the general manager and CEO for Morristown Utilities, was quoted as saying, “Walters State is an important part of our community and has always assisted us with advancing employee education and providing training in many areas. Our workforce is critical to maintain our mission and provide the services our customers expect. We look for and need new talent in specific areas like engineering and technology. This scholarship is one of the best ways to support our community and the students at Walters State.”

One student from Morristown-Hamblen High School East and one student from Morristown-Hamblen High School West will benefit from the scholarship. Priority will be given to students who have expressed interest in Walters State Community College’s associate of applied science in electrical engineering program, associate of science in pre-engineering program, or associate of science in engineering technology program.

Chris Cates, who serves as the assistant vice president for college advancement at Walters State Community College, said, “We are grateful to Morristown Utilities for the financial assistance they will be providing to our students.
