Cedarville University partners with Nutramax

The partnership involves the supplement provider providing grant funding to the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy in support of research.

Cedarville University has formed a partnership with Nutramax, a company that provides pet and human supplements. The partnership involves Nutramax sponsoring research at Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy via grant funding. The relationship between the university and the supplement provider came about because of like-minded values, with Dr. Jeff Bates, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, visiting Nutramax in South Carolina to network with individuals from the company, which adheres to biblical values.

According to an article on Cedarville University’s website, Bates said of the relationship that arose between the two institutions, “We began asking the question, ‘If our missions are very similar, then how can we do things together?’ That’s how this relationship grew. Nutramax has financially supported Cedarville school of pharmacy students and faculty participating in medical mission trips. Students and faculty have served internationally in southeast Asia and Central and South America, as well as domestically in states like Kentucky and Georgia.”

The funding from Nutramax also supports Dr. Kyrie Baden, instructor of pharmacy practice, as a Health Outcomes Fellow. Dr. Baden will soon perform a systematic review of glucosamine chondroitin, one of Nutramax’s supplements.

Speaking of Dr. Baden, a Nutramax spokesperson said, “Cedarville has been pertinent in furthering our research and clinical knowledge around specific ingredients and conditions. Kyrie is extremely detail-oriented, efficient and timely in her work. Her ethical approach to research is refreshing and exquisite. We are very grateful for her work on these projects, which we can use to help us better educate our customers, and we look forward to future projects.”

Dr. Baden’s previous systematic reviews from 2024 looked at s-adenosylmethionine and its effect on anxiety and depression.
