The institutions have formed two new articulation agreements for engineering and medical students.
Marian University and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College have formed a partnership to provide students with pathway programs to continue their college education. Students who are pursuing engineering now have a dual-degree option to receive bachelor degrees from both schools, and students pursuing medicine at SMWC will now have priority consideration to enter medical school at Marian University.
According to an article on Marian University’s website, President Daniel J. Elsener was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “These partnerships reflect our shared commitment to student-centered innovation and our commitment to preparing future leaders for high-impact careers critical to Indiana’s future. This mission-centered collaboration brings Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Marian University together to better serve students and the state through an education [illuminated] by the light of faith and grounded in gospel values.”
The 3+2 dual-degree engineering program will give students the opportunity to receive both a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from SMWC and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Marian University’s E. S. Witchger School of Engineering. The agreement states that students will spend three years at SMWC completing foundational math and science courses, and then will transfer into Marian University's engineering program, where they will learn biomedical, mechanical, and civil engineering. At the end of the five-year experience, students will earn both degrees.
The agreement for medical students states that qualified SMWC graduates will receive priority consideration for admission to Marian University’s Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine. SMWC students will be able to choose to pursue Biology–Preprofessional: Early Decision Track or Guaranteed Interview Track. A select number of eligible students will be selected from each track to either receive early decision for admittance into the university’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program or will receive a guaranteed interview for the program.
SMWC’s President Brennan Randolph said, “This collaboration offers our students a unique opportunity to benefit from both institutions' academic strengths and supportive learning environments. We are proud to partner with Marian University to broaden opportunities in high-demand fields like engineering and medicine.”
