The pathway will allow students to simultaneously work toward an associate degree at Nashville State Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business degree at University of Tennessee Martin.
Nashville State Community College and the University of Tennessee Martin have formed a partnership that will make the path to a bachelor degree more accessible for students who are interested in agricultural business. Under the new streamlined pathway agreement, students who complete one year of classes at Nashville State Community College will receive guaranteed admission into University of Tennessee Martin’s Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business program, into which they will enter while simultaneously finishing their associate degree at NSCC.
According to an article on Nashville State Community College’s website, college president Shanna L. Jackson was quoted as saying of the partnership, “By collaborating with the University of Tennessee at Martin, Nashville State is working to make college-going flexible, maximizing [students'] time and money. UTM’s commitment to this partnership complements our mission to connect students to high-quality, [innovative] educational experiences.”
The details of the agreement ensure that pursuing a bachelor degree in agricultural business is more accessible and affordable, as students can essentially “double-up” on credits to earn a General Studies associate degree and a bachelor degree in agricultural business at the same time. Additionally, students will be preparing themselves for expanded career opportunities by holding two degrees.
Each institution is confident that the partnership will serve to bolster the region’s workforce, as well.
Dr. Yancy Freeman, the UT Martin chancellor, said, "The partnership between Nashville State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin represents our commitment to expanding educational opportunities in rural Tennessee. Through our network of regional centers, we're bringing higher education directly to communities like Humphreys County, allowing students to pursue their academic goals without leaving home.”
