The endowed scholarships will allow students in perpetuity to receive financial assistance to attend Kirtland Community College.
Kirtland Community College’s Kirtland Foundation has announced the addition of four new endowed scholarships, each providing financial assistance to students for years to come. Endowed scholarship funds continue to grow throughout the years, accumulating more funding and allowing the donor’s original gift to continue making an impact long after the donation.
According to an article on Kirtland Community College’s website, Heather Appold, the director of the Kirtland Foundation, was quoted as saying of the nature of endowed scholarships, “When individuals gift their hard-earned money to support an endowed scholarship, it’s a true testament of the impact they want to have. Since endowments grow, the impact will reach students into the future. It truly is amazing that so many in our community are kind and want to see students succeed.”
The four new scholarships are the Buschbacher Family Endowed Scholarship, which is available to any full or part time student with a 3.0 or higher grade point average, the Morley Kinney Nursing Scholarship, which is available to students in the nursing program, the Michael & Bonnie Stephan Family Endowed Scholarship, which is available to any student in any program facing financial difficulties, and the Rasmus & Margrethe Hanson Endowed Scholarship, which is available to any Kirtland Community College student who graduated from Grayling High School.
Each of the new scholarships provides students between $500 to $1,000 of financial support and are awarded annually.
Susie Marshall, a member of the Kirtland Foundation Board, said, “I am always pleased to see a new agreement document for an endowed scholarship. This indicates to the board that the donor is making a long-term commitment to helping students. The funds are invested by the Foundation, thereby giving continual stability to supporting our mission.”
